Timber engineering and software group ITW Industry has installed a new £54,000 testing rig at its Glenrothes facility.

The rig, supplied by material testing equipment manufacturer and fellow ITW company Instron, was introduced along with a 40ft timber conditioning chamber to prepare timber before testing with connector/hanger products.

The soon-to-be launched Cullen Universal Hanger will be the first product out of the new facility, with ITW hinting of other new products to follow.

ITW said the investment will benefit customers by providing quick product development and precise test results.

The test facility will be appraised for UKAS compliance, allowing testing to ETAG015 and the use of results for European Technical Approval and CE marking submissions.

Future plans for the rig include testing of Cullen connectors and Alpine nailplates in tensions and beams/joists up to 6m in length.
