The system, supplied by Barcoding.co.uk, provides wireless data collection across International Timber‘s 18-acre site at Grangemouth, where around 3,000 packs or 12,000m3 of timber arrives through the port every month. The packs are bar code labelled and scanned in order to update the company’s inventory of stock.

Rugged Hand Held Products’ 7400 mobile data scanners are used and the radio frequency network collects data for transfers and goods receipting directly across the company’s ADP Kerridge Enterprise Resource Planning system. Some 18 Wi-Fi access points with two lamp post structures were installed to ensure complete wireless coverage across the large site.

“The wireless and automated data collection gives us an instant check on all timber stock and movements into the site so we can manage the business better, more effectively with minimum errors, whilst saving on time,” said Alan Mullarkey, International Timber’s IT support manager.
