Input, which has a £4m annual turnover, invested about £20,000 in the Boere Sandrite machine to calibrate and finish stair strings.

The strings are jointed with a glue line, which often means some discrepancy in thickness between components.

Input production director Martin Ruddick said the two-head unit, specified with additional pressure shoes, flattens edges on products, eliminating cupping and tapering which occurred with the previous sander. Some doors and other joinery products are also being processed on the Sandrite.

The Sandrite uses 1900mm long 80 grit and 120 grit belts. It also features extended infeed and outfeed roller track tables.
