Pressure on precious tropical rainforest resources and the renewed focus on legal sourcing through the EU Timber Regulation could potentially further the reputation of, and demand for, modified wood.

The main chemically modified wood brands – Accoya, Kebony and Lignia – have thus far struggled to achieve good profits because of currency swings, raw material and energy price hikes, capacity under-utilisation and competition from traditional timber products.

But undeterred, they all have new developments on the go with the aim of expanding the market.
