The IDM Activa edgebander, installed at the division’s Crosland Road factory in Huddersfield, has raised output to around 25,000 panels per week.

The Activa, sourced primarily for DP’s kitchen door work and for general panel contracts, is being used for a variety of decorative edging material from 0.4mm to 3mm, for kitchen carcase work and fascias.

DP’s Activa can be operated manually and automatically to integrate large volume panel runs with smaller batches of non-standard sizes and thicknesses. Incoming panels are squared in both dimensions prior to edgebanding.

The Activa’s belt-driven tracking is powered by a two speed rack and pinion that accelerates individual panels between the processing stations, then slows them for squaring, edgebanding and finishing.

Foil laminates and MFCs finished to either or both faces are trimmed chip-free by contra rotating cutters.

Rounding units are installed for post or soft-forming of panels, while fine sanding, edge buffing and an edge brightening unit are all designed to improve finish quality.
