Merchant Hutchings Timber Ltd has upgraded its moulding facilities to comply with the latest health and safety regulations.

The Deal company’s new Holytek MX-6S23 throughfeed moulder, supplied by Trymwood Machinery Sales, is a CE-certified machine with a comprehensive safety and environmental compliant specification, including a transparent sound hood with internal lighting.

Hutchings needed a heavy-duty moulder with high output and a quick, flexible set-up to service its large and varied stock range, which includes 200 different mouldings on display.

The machine, which cost about £35,000, has a width capacity from 10-230mm and a height capacity of 7-160mm. The spindles are all powered by individual motors to deliver a speed of 6,000rpm, while the feed speed is adjustable from 6-30m/min.

It has a centralised control panel and all adjustment levers for spindles are located on the front, each having a digital readout.

Because of the large number of mouldings required and short runs, the Holytek has been specified with a “dial-a-size” positioning device on some spindles. This positions the head correctly and can compensate for different tooling diameters automatically, thus reducing set-up times.
