Companies are being warned to ignore information from three firms claiming to regulate health and safety legislation.

The alert comes from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which has received hundreds of complaints from companies across the country that have received requests for payment in return for compliance with health and safety law.

The three north-west England firms are asking companies all over Great Britain for beetween £125-249 to ensure they comply with health and safety law.

The HSE advises anyone receiving literature from the Health and Safety Enforcement Agency of Liverpool, the Health and Safety Compliance Agency of Manchester or the Health and Safety Registration Enforcement Division of Rochdale to ignore it.

HSE deputy director-general Justin McCracken said: “None of these companies is connected to HSE. Organisations should be very wary of any approach from these firms, or any company ‘offering’ similar services. All three firms use wording suggesting they are official enforcement bodies, but they are not.”
