Carl Wheeler, a second-year apprentice employed by the Dover-based company Howard Joinery, has won the South Kent College Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice of the Year Award. He was presented with a wooden plaque and certificate at an awards ceremony on June 4.
In addition to this award, Mr Wheeler was also given the opportunity to take part in Skill Build – a joinery competition where apprentices from Kent and Sussex competed in an all-day practical joinery competition. He came a creditable third.
“This award is a tremendous achievement for Carl and one which he richly deserves,” said Howard Joinery manager Keith Whiting. “His standard of work is excellent and he is carrying on our tradition for high quality craftsmanship.”
