Ridon Joinery turned to the Hoffmann dovetail jointing system to solve a problem making large 6x4m windows.
The Southampton-based company, which already used the Hoffmann system in cabinetry work, needed the window frames to be load-bearing for the roof apex. The sheer size of the windows, for a new public building in Hampshire, made it difficult to use traditional mortise and tenon jointing.
One of the largest serrated dovetail keys in the Hoffmann range was used to join the frames.
Another Hampshire company, Havant-based Stephen Anthony Design, has taken on a Hoffmann MU2 keyway router and Morsø guillotine to produce face frames for kitchen doors and drawers.
The Hoffmann system removed the process of pinning and stapling of joints and associated glue curing.
