The introduction of the ISPM 15 plant health rules stipulating heat treatment of wood and timber packaging is having a growing impact worldwide.

To minimise the risk and cost to businesses of breaching the regulations, kiln specialist Bes Bollman has introduced a new unit that tests specifically to the standard, the Calmatic 10-1.

“The problem for timber companies is that if a failure is detected in any piece they have to write off the batch,” said the company’s Hubert Moser. “Our new monitor system is quick and easy to use and if it picks up a problem, only the timber processed since the last test has to be taken out.”

At Ligna, Bes Bollman also demonstrated its new probeless HDI20 humidity monitor.
