Dai Hatfield has retired after nearly 20 years as roundwood buyer at Howie Forest Products Ltd.

Mr Hatfield began his career in the Welsh Marches and later worked at Pontrilas before moving to south-west Scotland. At that time Howie ran standing sales contracts and its recently-built mill was cutting around 70,000 tonnes of logs a year. It now cuts four times that amount.

Mr Hatfield has witnessed many changes during his career and he influenced much of the log quality specifications the industry works with today.

His retirement was marked by an evening celebration with his wife Linnet and his colleagues.
