Softwood importer W J Handrahan & Son Ltd has switched from a steel to a polyester strapping system for securing its timber bundles.

The Kingswinford company said it had found difficulties with its previous steel strapping system, including achieving the correct tension, which meant packs of small section timber lost their shape as they were moved.

“We were wasting time and money on restrapping, which was clearly not acceptable,” said works manager Stuart Troth.

Six replacement hand strapping tools utilising polyester strapping and featuring automatic pre-set tensioning were supplied by Strapex.

The tools are also being used to strap sections for sheds, which need to be bundled together so all the pieces for one shed remain together.
