Furniture fittings supplier Häfele UK Ltd has spent £1.5m on phase three of its high-rise warehousing project.

The completion of Hi-Bay 3 increases the company’s warehouse storage capacity to 22,500 pallet spaces, of which 15,000 in the latest phase rise to 30m in height. They feature fully-automatic, electronically programmed goods placement and order picking.

Between 4,500-5,000 product pickings now take place daily to service up to 8,000 active account customers a month.

Häfele managing director Mike Smith said floor space was now running short in the conventional warehouse area because of an increasing take-up of large, bulky or longer items.

The company has secured scope for future growth by purchasing an additional 2.5 acres of adjoining land. More than £5m has been invested at Rugby over the past five years in internal administrative systems, warehousing and general floor space.
