THUS Mobile Solutions plc has supplied Arnold Laver Timber World with a vehicle tracking system designed to enhance efficiency and safeguard the 160-strong fleet.

Lavers turned to THUS to provide a solution to the problems of driver management, journey errors, vehicle theft and the use of company lorries for non-business purposes.

This resulted in a GPS-based system being installed that allows a central office to monitor the whereabouts of each vehicle during the day, with an onscreen map pinpointing each lorry and its movements throughout the day.

As well as acting as a deterent to thieves and drivers considering running personal errands, Arnold Laver corporate system director Colin Dean said that the system ensures no vehicle ever gets lost. “[Drivers] just call the office and they’ll say ‘turn left at the bottom of the street’,” he said.

Mr Dean added that the lack of interaction required between drivers and office staff with the system has simplified the process of managing personnel and improving efficiency.

“It’s one of the things we never get support calls about. It’s intuitive. It just works,” said Mr Dean.
