Glenalmond Timber Co Ltd has invested in a Liebherr long-reach materials handler to improve its unloading of timber at Perth Harbour.

Glenalmond imports around 60,000m³ of timber products from Latvia, Sweden and Germany each year. The Liebherr A 934C HD Litronic is intended to help improve productivity at its portside operations.

The company said that the machine needed to be able to cope with tide variances and allow “excellent operator visibility”.

“The new machine does exactly what it was required to do and we are very pleased with its performance,” said managing director Fraser Steele.

“We are now unloading between 2,000-3,900m³ of structural timber from small- to medium-sized bulk vessels in 6-10 hours, a significant improvement in efficiency.”

The Liebherr has been decorated in Glenalmond’s Ultrajoist livery, which is in line with the company’s corporate and transport fleet identity.
