Educational furniture manufacturer KM Furniture Ltd of Whittington Moor, Derbyshire has invested in a Talbott’s shredder and wood waste-to-heat system.

The company generates more than 10 tonnes of woodwaste each week, including chipboard and MDF, and prior to installation of the Talbott’s system this had to be transported to a landfill site, adding to operating costs.

The fully automatic Talbott’s stand-alone TM/A system, which represents a £40,000 investment, was installed in KM Furniture’s 200,00ft2 factory and warehousing space in April.

It generates 300kW of heat energy per hour from scrap materials, off-cuts and sawdust and the resulting hot air is fed into the factory to reduce heating costs.

Talbott’s northern area sales manager Chris Hughes said: “The hot air generated is carried 30m through ducting back into the main workshop from the warehouse where the TM/A system is located.

“This T range of packaged ‘stand-alone’ automatic systems with integrated bunker storage is designed to allow installation directly uinder extraction systems or remotely, where required. They are approved appliances under the Clean Air Act for use in smoke control areas.”
