Jane Karthaus has been appointed as director of the Forestry & Timber Association. She will be responsible for communications, including editing the quarterly Forestry & Timber News. Ms Karthaus has worked closely with the board for two years in this capacity and, prior to the establishment of the FTA, she was secretary of APF for nine years. She is also a director of Border Consultants (Forestry) Ltd.

The FTA has also appointed John Davis as vice-chairman for England, in recognition of the heavy English workload anticipated in 2004. Mr Davies owns two woodland companies operating inEngland and Wales – Woodland Improvement & Conservation Ltd, a tree nursery, and Woodland Improvement Ltd, a forestry contracting and consulting company. He was a founder member and the initial chairman of the British & Irish Hardwoods Improvement Programme which is aimed at improving the quality of broad leaf tree production in the UK and Ireland.
