Sussex furniture manufacturer Restall Brown and Clenell Ltd (RBC), whose factory was flooded last year, has been re-equipped by Trymwood Machinery Sales.

Workers at the Lewes factory were rescued by lifeboat from the second floor veneer shop after the floods struck and water ruined the machinery.

Trymwood was initially contacted for an insurance valuation for a Viet widebelt sander.

But its experience in re-equipping firms proved timely, especially as RBC’s enforced move to a temporary site at Newhaven gave the opportunity to take a radical look at production and machinery.

Equipment costing about £400,000 was supplied, including a Stromab Pendulum saw, a Holytek HR20 straight line edger, a Paoloni P3200 sliding table panel saw and two T140 spindle moulders.

Other machinery included a Pade MDO, a Viet Challenge T233 wide belt sander and T45 round end mortice and tenoner.

Two Baioni Modu 3000×1500 veneer presses were also installed and another Baioni, a Vato moulding and forming press, was introduced for work on bow-fronted panels, along with four Baioni roller glue spreaders.

The company will move the machinery back to its Lewes factory next Easter.
