Finnforest Merk’s Kerto LVL formed an eye-catching backdrop for the Architects’ Journal’s Architecture Pavilion.

The company’s LVL feature wall, designed by architect Will Alsop, appeared as an entangled wave of slender beams on one side of the pavilion, designed as a relaxation, bar and seminar area for architects and specifiers.

Warren Dudding, UK marketing manager for Finnforest Merk, said: “This is a remarkable feat of design, in terms of its unusual conception. It really challenges the perception of wood as a structural material, how it can be used and what it can do, which is exactly what we asked Will to do.”

Alsop Architects said the wall of interlocking curved LVL sheets was self-supportive and designed to allow visitors to interact with the structure – “walking through it and under it, even sitting on it”.
