A company is seeking financial backing to launch new saw technology onto the commercial stage.

Dean Saws Ltd claims its hardened tipped wide bandsaw and grinder, the JAGO system, will revolutionise the wide bandsaw market and make sawmills more efficient.

Dean Saws says the system, which has undergone two years of trials and is patented, reduces smaller mills’ dependence on outside saw services.

Managing director Tony Ogden said field trials showed in excess of 40 hours cutting time per blade before re-sharpening. One small Welsh sawmill recorded a cutting time of 200 hours.

He estimates re-sharpening can take place at least 10 times before re-tipping is required, with one sawmill not having re-tipped its three saws during two years of trials.

Mr Ogden said the JAGO bench-mounted grinder provided savings of consumables for sawmills plus a reduction in costly down time for changing sawblades.

He added: ‘The large expensive imported grinders will no longer be required and with that the cost of replacement parts, which, in many cases, have to be imported.’

Dean Saws now needs financial backing to introduce the products to the market.
