Ian Forshaw has been appointed director of Forestry Commission Wales, 27 years after he joined the Forestry Commission as a trainee forester.

He has been interim director since the retirement of Simon Hewitt last year.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Forshaw said: “Forestry Commission Wales has a vital role to play in supporting the forestry industry through a difficult period, while assisting the Assembly to deliver its broader policies including health, education and renewable energy. There is much good work being done in Wales and I’m really excited about building on what we have already achieved.”

Mr Forshaw joined the Forestry Commission in 1978 as a trainee forester and since then his posts have included forest management and environment officer, based in Dumfries, harvesting and marketing officer and director, forest operations, Forest Enterprise Great Britain. In 2003 he was appointed head of policy and business development for FC Scotland.
