Kitchen and bedroom fascia manufacturer Polished with Pride has automated its sanding process by installing a Löwer DiscMaster.

The Wigan company says the DiscMaster, supplied by Abacon Ltd of Sheffield, has led to a 50% reduction in sanding staff and a production growth of at least 33%.

It also says the technology has reduced the number of items needing re-working by 80%.

The DiscMaster features a combination of both sanding discs and sanding rollers equipped with brush-backed abrasive strips slotted into special SlipCon hubs.

Abacon says sharp edges on painted MDF components are softened by the sanding process rather than damaged, while deep moulds can be accessed by the technology.

Polished with Pride has also installed a Löwer TopSpin machine for edge finishing and an Abacon MultiSander single head machine for edge finishing of shorter components while larger batches are produced.

Löwer DiscMaster sanders cost from £50,000-60,000, depending on specification.
