A defence technology and security company has invested in wood waste extraction equipment for its marine testing facility at Haslar.

The extraction solution, supplied by High Wycombe-based Wood Waste Control (Engineering) Ltd, has been installed in QinetiQ’s modelling workshop.

QinetiQ, formed in 2001 from the majority of the Defence, Evaluation and Research Agency, produces scale models of military and commercial vessel hull designs in wood and fibreglass.

Free-manoeuvring models are tested in a 120x60m “Ocean Basin”, while fixed models undergo towing tests in the Ship Tank, which is an eighth of a mile long straight run.

The extraction equipment, which replaced an older system, comprises two WFB13/2 silo filters each fitted with a rotary valve.
