Duchy Timber has invested about £250,000 in its moulding operation to satisfy a growing demand for a wide choice of high quality, short run linear timber mouldings.

The Lostwithiel-based company is also planning a further £500,000 spend installing kilns and upgrading its sawmill within the next 12 months.

Duchy Timber’s moulding operation has been improved by the erection of a 5,000ft2 building, housing a new Weinig Powermat 500 moulder for fast production of customised mouldings. A Rondamat 960 profile grinder, computerised template maker and an extraction system have also been intalled.

The company’s bespoke mouldings are in particular demand for the refurbishment of Victorian houses, pubs and hotels, as well as new build locally.

The Powermat, which features PowerLock tooling, enables Duchy Timber to change tooling in just 5 minutes compared to 45 minutes on the previous conventional moulder.

A new extraction system is designed to meet clean air environmental needs on hard or softwoods.
