The two German sawmill equipment specialists came together after Linck bought out EWD from the Esterer group for an undisclosed sum.

The companies say they will now be able to provide customers with the “complete machinery package”, combining EWD’s strength in bandsaw systems, edger optimisers, circular saw and profiling technology, with Linck’s extensive product line which includes chipper canters, profiler units, gangsaws and board edgers.

“We are very complementary as businesses,” said EWD technical sales director Thomas Lang.

“It’s like the coming together of Audi and Volkswagen.”

In the meantime, EWD continues its product development programme, unveiling the new Opti 550 OptiDrive edger optimiser line. This can be fitted with linear or transverse scanning, and optimisation software gives the best edging solution by volume or value, with the BKO 3 edger producing three main grades and six board thicknesses with eight qualities in each. A new infeed gives throughput of 20,000 boards per shift.

New on the Linck stand was an updated cant turner with two pairs of rollers capable of handling 60 logs per minute.
