A replacement window firm is kitting out its factory with new equipment after making a strategic move to return to timber windows and door manufacture.

Dust extraction and wood burning equipment has been installed at Eston Replacement Windows’ (ERW) Middlesbrough factory as the directors seek to capitalise on the increasing popularity and green credentials of timber.

The company closed its joinery shop in 1999 to concentration on PVCu, alumnium and outsourced wooden windows and doors.

Managing director Lawrence Wall said the time was right to invest in technology for the production of factory-finished timber windows and doors, using European redwood.

A prominent part of the investment has been in a Dustrax No27 RV Series filter from Dustraction as the basis of a new woodwaste extraction layout.

It will handle an air volume of 10,000ft³ per minute and serves a window manufacturing line, as well as a CNC router, moulder, bandsaw, cross-cut, saw bench and a verticle spindle moulder.

Waste discharged, including large off-cuts, is transferred to a WT15 burner supplied by Woodwaste Technology.

Filtered and heated air is returned back into the factory at a high level via summer/winter dampers which allow direct discharge outside during warmer weather.
