Interbuild provided the first major UK exhibition showcase for the ElecoFrame system from Eleco Timber Frame (ETF), and it aroused interest from across the visitor spectrum.

On the second day, ETF managing director Paul Taylor said the company had already had 100 serious enquiries.

“We’ve been busy non-stop,” he said. “We’ve had a very encouraging response from developers and, interestingly on the first day, we had a lot of self-builders. They’re not a market we service at the moment, but they may be an interesting opportunity for the future.”

ElecoFrame was officially launched in the UK 18 months ago and has already been taken up by a number of developers, including McInerney which has used it in apartment blocks. The system uses nail-plates to link timber components and provide rigidity rather than an external wood-based panel skin, allowing insulation to be fastened on the frame exterior.

The innovative nature of the system was recognised at the show, with a runners-up spot in the Off-site Solutions category of the Interbuild New Products Awards.

On the ETF stand, which comprised a two-storey ElecoFrame house shell, the company also promoted its ElecoFloor composite sound insulating floor system. Supplied in 36mm and 40mm formats, this comprises a sandwich of chipboard, acoustic matting and felt, and MDF and acoustic felt and is designed to “outperform” Part E of the Building Regulations on sound resistance.
