Egger’s chipboard plant in Brilon, Germany has been modernised and extended in an €18m investment involving Siempelkamp technology.

The 43-day conversion project follows an earlier overhaul at Egger’s Rambervillers factory in France.

On the infeed side, the chipboard line was extended by 5m to a total of 43m, with hot platens and drive units also replaced.

Spreading machines were optimised to improve spreading patterns and the old sanding line was replaced by a new 10-head Steinemann Satos plus.

“The main objective of the modernisation was to optimise the chipboard characteristics,” it said. “Thanks to improved spreading and the new sanding line, a more homogenous surface can be achieved. This has a positive impact on the rawboard, as well as lamination.”

It said extending the press also helped offset lost output due to formulation changes.

Egger said customer supplies were maintained throughout the project, thanks to support from plants in Unterradlberg, Hexham, Barony, Ramber, Radauti and St Johann in Tirol.
