The most challenging feature of the investment was installation of a new cyclo-filter woodwaste extraction system by Dustraction. The system provides 30% extra capacity to the 40,000ft2 factory and can cope with extra production machines being added in the future.

Dustraction managing director Steve Matuska said the job was a case of “squeezing a quart into a pint pot” due to site space restrictions.

Backed up by an overhead crane, the Dustraction team installed a new more powerful cyclo-filter plant onto a 10x6m corner site with only centimetres to spare. Alongside the site is a drop of several feet to a neighbouring car park.

“It just goes to prove that even our most powerful extraction plant can be accommodated in the smallest space,” said Mr Matuska.

Woodwaste is blown tangentially into the filter chamber, with 95% of waste being cyclonically seperated before reaching the filters. The filters’ Permalite fabric allows air to pass through but halts the passage of the remaining 5% of matter.

EE Smith, whose clients include Cunard, P&O, Hilton and Marriott, said the decision to upgrade its extraction equipment stemmed directly from the company’s success. Greater demand has seen it install a CML multi-rip saw, a Brandt edgebander and a Boere drum sander. A new beam saw will also be added later this year.
