Hardwood timber supplier Ecochoice Ltd has agreed a distribution deal with Travis Perkins for Forest Stewardship Council-certified flooring.

The London-based agent, which shared an exhibition stand with the FSC UK Working Group, will supply its range of tropical pre-finished flooring to Travis’s major flooring branches, Vauxhall and Paddington in London.

“Both the consumer and trade markets are becoming increasingly aware of the implications of buying timber that is not certified. Ecochoice is specifically geared towards addressing this growing niche market,” said Ecochoice director Mike Bekin.

Ecochoice will supply jatoba, tiger wood and timborana flooring products. They will be available to all the merchant’s branches through its computerised distribution system.

“We will keep a close look at how and, most importantly, where sales develop. Then we will encourage branches to create stock for immediate delivery,” said Mr Bekin.

Ecochoice also used Interbuild to promote PlatoWood, a thermally modified timber product imported from the Continent.

The company claims the modification process creates a timber which is less brittle than other thermally modified wood products, and which can be used in direct contact with the ground or water. Target applications include cladding, poles and decking.
