Setra Group’s Skinnskatteberg mill in central Sweden, which produces sawn pine, introduced Sandvik‘s full range of bandsaw steel blades (Sandvik Bright, Multishift and Durashift) when it went from three shifts to two.

The mill is now producing 235,000m3, almost the same as before, with one fewer shift.

A mill spokesperson said Durashift has performed beyond expectations, with blade crack formation having ceased, even with a run-time of 16 hours, utilisation of cutting machines up by 15%.

The Forssa Saha Sawmill in Finland has reported cost savings on tooling and servicing of more than €50,000 by switching from Sandvik Bright to Durashift. The mill now regrinds blades after 16 hours processing, compared to four hours beforehand, with the advantage of less downtime.

Sandvik is now targeting its Durashift blades at the UK market.
