Well for most of us, holiday time is over and the relaxed easygoing pace of sun, sea, sand and shorts is overtaken by the need to get back into the work groove, so perhaps there’s no better time than this to be a little provocative!
Some years ago the ‘sheds’ were perceived as the biggest threat to merchants since the last ice age and yet there still seem to be a surprising number of us dinosaurs still around.
Now, via the enormous power of its international PLC media weaponry, one of the big groups has just heralded the arrival of a new era in building material supply, or as I see it, another shed operation!
Strangely enough, it will focus on ‘white van men’ paying as they go, while opening all hours. And the level of interest in applying for their trade-only cards has exceeded all their expectations.
Well, call me old, stupid and outdated (and anything else you like; I’m an understanding type of guy!), but haven’t we seen this before? Aren’t there already a couple of these formats kicking around?
Oh well, I’d better get back to my abacus and quill pen at the old Portacabin to see if there’s anything else I can do to drum up a bit of business, before this lot eat us alive!
