Aberdeen College’s new £12m Construction Training Facility has been kitted out with £250,000-worth of woodworking machinery by Daltons Wadkin.

Thirteen new Wadkin classical machines, a Kuper SWT23XL five-head planer/moulder and a Stenner ST100R band resaw were supplied to the Altens Centre, which has workshops and classrooms for teaching joinery and other construction professions.

A number of machines by Casadei, Houfek, Stromab, RJH and Meddings were also supplied.

Daltons Wadkin also took on the responsibility of removing existing machines from the college’s old workshops, before upgrading and reinstalling them inside the Altens Centre.

The company’s specialist transport was used throughout the operation, while technical director Steve Balchin and his installation team spent many days and nights north of the border to complete the project.

The Scottish Funding Council provided £12m funding for project.

The Altens Centre, which complements technical training and engineering facilities currently operated by the college, opened to new students on October 25.

“The new training facility aims to encourage students back into the construction industry, helping to create a skilled workforce ready to take advantage of the opportunities available in the economic upturn,” said Aberdeen College vice-principal Roddy Scott.

The college has around 30,000 annual student enrolments, with learning centres established throughout Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.
