Specialist timber transporter A to Z Lloyd Transport Ltd has just taken delivery of a top-of-the-range DAF drawbar truck, which it has put into service under contract to M&M Timber Ltd.

Bearing M&M’s livery and with the personalised number plate MM 10 LOG, the 6×2 DAF FAS XF105 drawerbar is powered by a 12.9 litre engine and is designed to handle all road conditions, including slippery forest tracks.

The truck has the flexibility to carry both raw materials and finished product. The body, which was designed and built by the bodyshop of DAF dealer Imperial Commercials of Halesowen, features removable steel upright retaining posts into the wood-floor flatbed. These posts can be slotted into place for carrying timber and removed and stored in a container on the truck when finished product is being carried.

Driver Mark Cartwright will cover 120,000km a year in the truck, collecting FSC-certififed timber from forests across the UK and delivering it to M&M at its Clows Top site in Worcestershire.

As he’ll spend jup to four nights a week living in the cab, the spec is as high inside as out, with an internal ceiling height of 2.1m, air conditioning, an air-suspended driver’s seat, a fridge and microwave and a 2.1x18m, 15cm thick mattress.

“This truck is something a bit special that will reflect well on our customer, M&M Timber,” said Alan Lloyd, owner of A to Z Lloyd Transport. “’We’re expecting that the flexibility of a drawbar outfit with an adaptable body and a self loading/unloading capability will result in a very productive truck.”
