Covers Timber and Builders Merchants has brought its entire treatment needs in-house, with the installation of a new treatment plant at its Chichester site.

Covers told TTJ it had been outsourcing the treatment of 6,000m³ of timber per year but had spent more than £100,000 on the 12x2m plant, which has the capacity to handle 8,500m³ of construction, fencing and landscaping timbers per year.

Arch has supplied the treatment and technology used by Covers, with its Auto-Treater control system ensuring correct application of the water-based Tanalith E preservative.

“With the new treatment facility we were looking to future proof ourselves and our customers as much as possible in terms of the very latest products and treatment technology,” said timber operations manager Bob Tee.

“As well as offering a wide range of ready treated carcassing, fencing and decking components, we can also offer a speedy, cost-effective and reliable service treatment of customers own timbers, if required.”

Mr Tee added the combination of Tanalith E and Auto-Treater control system meant Covers would “make best use of the plant’s design and capacity, giving us significant ready treated stocks of key timber components”.
