Pre-cast concrete component manufacturer Bison has invested £75,000 in woodworking machinery at its four main manufacturing bases.
The company is dependent on its woodworking shop facilities to make wooden shuttering and moulds to create non-standard pre-cast components.
Conway Saw won the contract after submitting a tender advising on the best machines for purpose and its ability to complete the entire installation programme and give training where required.
Most of the wood machining involves cutting and dimensioning of sawn timber with some panel and sheet material sizing.
Four different saws were supplied for Bison’s Leeds factory – a GMC vertical panel saw, a Sedgwick TA450 dimension saw, a Cosma C800 vertical band saw and a Stromab RS650S radial arm saw equipped with roller tracking measuring stops. The saws are joined by a Robland SD510 planer-thicknesser.
An unusual feature of the installation is the underfloor channelling for dust extraction ducting accessible via removable floor guards.
The same machines supplied to Leeds were also installed at Bison’s plants at Uddingston and Iver. The Iver installation also included two P&J dust extraction systems.
At Bison’s Lichfield workshops a GMC vertical panel saw fitted with a booster fan on the extraction system was installed.
