ConFor has appointed Stuart Goodall as executive director for policy and research.

Mr Goodall has worked for ConFor since its inception in 2004, but on temporary secondment from the Forestry Commission. He has now left the Forestry Commission to join ConFor full-time. His role includes policy development and representation, identifying key policy issues, leading the preparation of policy positions and co-ordinating lobbying work.

One current policy issue relates to the forthcoming Forestry Commission England strategy to produce an additional 2 million tonnes of wood for fuel from England’s existing woodlands. Mr Goodall is working with FCE on this and is meeting England’s forestry minister, Barry Gardiner, in support of the strategy. “The strategy is potentially great news for woodland owners in England, opening up new opportunities for revitalising woodland management,” he said.
