The chilled Guinness may have given the Combilift stand added allure, but it was the company’s latest lift truck developments that principally drew the visitors.

Managing director Martin McVicar described the show as a major success. “It was better for us than Ligna 2001. We took orders and generated a lot of interest.”

The Irish company had two stands, one indoors and one in the outside timber handling and forest machinery area where Mr McVicar and his colleagues put the Combilifts through their paces.

Models on show included the well-known four-way, narrow aisle truck, but with an updated steering design.

“It can now turn around its central point so it’s even more manoeuvrable,” said Mr McVicar.

But the machine that was the “real eye-opener” for visitors, particularly the Germans, was Combilift’s C5000 SL, unveiled at Woodmex 2002, which has the appearance of a sideloader, but with four-way performance. The model on display featured the cab facing forwards, like a conventional sideloader. “But we can also make it with the cab facing the forks which can give further field of vision benefits,” said Mr McVicar.

Combilift also highlighted its new cab design, which features a more supportive seat and adjustable steering column.
