Swiss polyurethane specialist Collano has had its contact-free glue application system for finger-jointing solid structural timber approved by the German Insititute for Civil Engineering.

The company believes the system, used in conjunction with Purbond HB adhesives, provides an intelligent solution for manufacturers of solid structural timber.

Collano says the market is demanding dry, quality-graded and accurately sized structural timber, ready for delivery in any cross-section and length.

But the company says conventional glue application methods are resulting in too much adhesive being used, requiring the finger-jointing system to be cleaned frequently and making spontaneous adjustments to different milling depths practically impossible.

The new process involves glue being applied outside the finger-jointing system, immediately before the press and Collano claims the technology gives greater accuracy, saves adhesive material, provides low maintenance and allows for a change of section dimensions with minimal set-up time.
