I would like to take the opportunity to respond to Graham Tracey (TTJ March 2).

I did not intend to imply that all those who operate in the trade, outside Timber Trade Federation membership, are ‘cowboys’ and I am sorry if that impression was given.

The Federation does, however, believe that the legitimate trader can use the new code of conduct to differentiate himself from that small but damaging minority of the trade who indulge in disreputable business practice.

We believe that the introduction of the new code will enhance the market share of our members and improve our sector’s reputation with the government and consumers.
