The investment at Scampton-based Chris Sharp Cabinets, includes a Raimann MultiRip quick change saw that optimises width cutting from random size boards. The company said the Raimann had made substantial waste savings on hardwoods.

Chris Sharp also replaced two Weinig Hydromat moulders with a Powermat 1000 with six heads and also added a Profimat with a grooved bed for machining hardwood twisted timber.

Other new kit includes two Dimter optimising and cross-cut saws, a Dimter laminating ProfiPress and a range of toolroom equipment.

Director Chris Sharp said the diversification into hardwoods followed the decline in demand for pine furniture, although it remains a major part of production. “We have done a lot of experimenting with CNC machines and new tooling enabling us to produce intricate and unusual bespoke work.”
