I wanted to stand up and cheer when John Gummer castigated the accreditation schemes for continuing to emphasise their disagreements and the relative purity of their own schemes.
The real achievement of timber certification has been obscured by their dispute. John Gummer is so right to compare it to the arguments between two religious sects, and it is about time that the schemes realised that the wood producing and using industries are much more concerned to see them working together to present a united front to champion the cause of certification and responsible sourcing than to understand the arcane points of details which separate them.
