Tom Gregory, Chiltern Dynamics marketing manger, said: “The CE mark is no a quality mark, but thre is something reassuring about it and, in the same way that specifiers now want sustainable timber with chain of custody certification, many will add CE marking to their list too.”
He said although CE marking was not mandatory in the UK, it was the preferred method of compliance with the Construction Products Directive, which manufacturers have to adhere to for trading in Europe.
Mr Gregory said the impending publication of product stnadard EN14351-2005 covering windows and pedestrian doorsets without fire resistance could pave the way for CE marking of the products in the near future.
The information sheet provides a check list for CE marking, including defining products, indentifying essential characteristics, testing, setting up factory production control, producing a declaration of conformity and affixing the CE mark.
