Builders merchant Boys and Boden Ltd has installed 1,500 linear metres of external racking with built-in weather protection to enhance its timber storage capabilities.

Pro-Dek Storage Systems supplied its Pro-Bolt cantilever racking with integral roof canopies at Boys and Boden’s Welshpool and Shrewsbury sites, which feature arms designed to carry 1,000kgs each with an adjustable 150mm pitch.

The racking columns support a series of low-profile pitched roofs clad with a single skin Plastisol-coated sheeting coupled with translucent panels in order to maintain natural lighting within the racking, as well as valley gutters and downpipes to carry away precipitation.

The Welshpool installation measures 33×6.8x13m, while the racking in Shrewsbury measures 29×6.8 x22m, giving maximum storage space on a small footprint, according to Pro-Dek.

The use of sideloader forklift trucks has also meant aisle widths have been standardised at 2.66m.
