BSW Timber has trebled the treatment capacity at its Newbridge-on-Wye sawmill with the installation of a new treatment facility.
The plant, now fully operational, has the capacity to handle up to 90,000m³ a year, offering Arch Timber Protection’s Tanalised green and Tanatone brown treatments and featuring a tilting tank to aid the treatment process.
Arch used Castleford-based CBR Engineering to manufacture the 15m-long and 2.4m diameter tanks. Each treatment charge capacity is 24m³.
BSW has invested £4m into the Newbridge-on-Wye site, including the new treatment facility, handling equipment, kilns and cross-cutting saws.
The company anticipates initial production volumes to reach 42,000m³ a year, with the extra capacity allowing BSW to expand its output in the coming years.
“This upgrade will enable us to significantly boost the treatment capabilities at Newbridge and ensure that the sawmilling business evolves with our customers and services their demands,” said BSW chief executive Paul Barham.
“Customer demand is fuelling the need for a more diversified and higher quality end product.”
He said the new tanks, designed to allow low pressure treatment in the future, would give BSW greater efficiencies.
Mr Barham added that the company is investing at its six UK sites in order to meet “growing demand for more value-added timber”.
