Fears that a new safety system would affect productivity at BSW Timber‘s Newbridge-on-Wye site have proved unfounded.

Re-engineering and primary process manager Alistair Sommerville was responsible for designing machine guarding for the main mill and he chose interlocking systems from Castell to protect the workforce.

Staff at Newbridge were initially sceptical about the new system, believing it would slow down productivity – but they have come to appreciate the benefits.

Mr Sommerville said: “They can see that the company has invested in their well-being and so they feel valued. Just as important, of course, is the fact that we’ve lost no production time as a result of the system being installed.”
