BSW Timber in Carlisle and Travis Perkins plc have donated £2,000 to When Wish You Wish Upon A Star, a charity that makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.

Carlisle-born TV presenter Paul Crone, a patron of the When You Wish Upon A Star charity, returned to his roots to collect the cheque from BSW Timber.

He said: “This is a superb donation and very much in keeping with the generosity of Cumbrian people. Even with the dreadful flooding recently, the people of Carlisle still think of those less fortunate than themselves.”

The When You Wish Upon A Star charity relies totally on public donations. Each year it helps dozens of seriously-ill children fulfil their dreams, from swimming with dolphins in Florida to meeting their favourite pop star, or travelling to Lapland to meet Santa Claus.

Carlisle mill manager David Burd said: “We are a big employer, and felt we wanted to put something back into the area. This is a fantastic charity, and we know that £2,000 is going to make a huge difference to several children’s lives.”
