Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd has updated its dust extraction equipment and bought additional machinery, taking its investment in technology to £650,000 during the past year.

The Maldon-based company’s most recent £150,000 spend included dust extraction equipment, a Weima ZM50 shredding machine and a RP30 modular foil and paper wrapping machine for its Danbury mill.

Improvement of the extraction facilities has allowed Brooks to cope with additional dust levels generated by the company’s recent £500,000 investment in Weinig Powermat moulders.

The Weima shredder converts sawn timber waste into small chips, which are transferred into a large silo to feed a boiler heating 15 drying kilns.

The RP30 wrapping machine, which is working alongside an existing wrapping line, will more than double current capacity.

Brooks’ earlier investment included the introduction of two automated flooring lines at Enfield-based sister company British Plywood Ltd.
