Organisers of the W6 Working with Wood exhibition say most major machinery suppliers have now booked their space.

The Woodworking Machinery Suppliers Association (WMSA), sponsor of the show, say bookings for the October 8-11, 2006 event at Birmingham NEC are already 20% ahead of the 2004 show.

It also says a “major celebrity” will be involved in the event, with details to be announced in the new year.

Other newly-released features of the show include a timber framed house display, a components section with innovation award and a training zone, showing the full range of training resources in the industry, with involvement from colleges and private training organisations.

The WMSA has also teamed up with The Woodland Trust to add a sustainability dimension to the event.

A new UK woodland will be planted by the partnership, with the number of tree plantings corresponding to the number of W6 visitors. The WMSA expects 5,000 trees to be planted during 2006.

The WMSA says exhibitors are delighted with its visitor promotion strategies, which include expanding the show concept to include timber and board suppliers, plus the timber frame sector.

Wadkin Group plans to expand its presence at the biennial show, formerly called Woodmex, to reflect the increased size and promotion of the event.
