Leading wood recycler Boden’s Timber Products has invested £220,000 in new high speed shredding and chip screening equipment from Doppstadt (UK).

The AK430 shredder and SM518 trommel screen have been delivered to Boden’s Astley, Manchester site, where it already operates a Doppstadt DZ 750 two-in-one shredder for processing mixed wood waste.

Since installing the DZ750 last year, the company has increased wood waste throughput at the Astley facility to up to 1,600 tonnes per week.

The new AK430 hammer mill shredder will work alongside the existing machine to boost Boden’s output further and increase its flexibility.

“We have further expansion plans for the next 12 months, and the AK430 offers us the productivity and mobility we need to move these forward,” said the company’s Charlie Boden. “The new trommel screen will also allow us to meet the increasingly demanding specifications laid down by chipboard makers as well as screening a range of other waste materials which are now coming into the site for recycling.”

The AK430 can process 15 to 20 tonnes of waste per hour and, for ease of maintenance, its drive engine is separated from the shredder unit. The SM518 has a variable drum speed of zero to 23rpm.
